MOVES FOR YOUR GLUTES!
Summer is not far off! Try these super butt-toning moves from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to get your booty in tip-top, bathing suit shape!
  1. HIP BRIDGES: Lie on your back, bend your knees and position your feet about shoulder-distance apart. Place your arms to the side or across your chest. Raise your hips as high as possible while keeping the knees over the toes. Repeat 15-20 times.
  2. CLAM SHELL: Lie on your side with the knees bent to 90 degrees and your torso facing forward. Raise your top leg but keep the foot touching the other foot. Complete 15-20 repetitions on each side.
  3. HIP EXTENSION + ABDUCTIONS: Assume an athletic-ready stance next to a wall or something secure that you can hold onto. Lift one leg back as high as possible without moving your upper body. Return to the starting position and lift the same leg out to the side (abduction) and return to starting position. Repeat 15-20 times on each leg.
  4. KETTLEBELL SWINGS: Plant feet in a wide stance and position a kettlebell 2 feet in front of you on the floor. Reach for the kettlebell with both hands; keep the legs mostly straight and maintain a flat, rigid back. Begin the movement by dragging the kettlebell back toward your feet and, in a pendulum-like motion, lift the kettlebell by extending your hips to stand, letting the kettlebell only reach shoulder height. Be sure to focus on the hip-hinge motion, not the squatting motion. The arms should not do anything other than hold the kettle bell.
  5. STATIONARY LUNGE: Start by staggering your legs about shoulder-width apart. Make sure that when you’re in the downward phase, your knees are at 90-degree angles (use a mirror if necessary). Lean slightly forward to keep the focus on the front leg-90% of the weight should be in the front leg; the back leg is only for balance purposes. Return to the starting split stance and slowly lower back down.
  6. CURTSY LUNGE: Begin standing with a wide stance and then cross the left leg behind the right to mimic a curtsy. Keep the shoulders drawn back and chest upright. To perform this movement correctly, be aware of the knee shifting during the lowering phase. Aim to keep the knee aligned closely to the heel so there isn’t extra strain on the joint. From the lowered position, push the body up to standing while simultaneously bringing the back leg forward to the starting wide-stance position and then crossing the other leg behind.

FOODS FOR YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM!
With the change in weather, we are susceptible to seasonal allergies and colds, and believe it or not, flu season is not yet officially over! In the United States flu season runs from October through May, so in addition to washing your hands regularly, you can also keep germs away through immune-boosting foods!
Try this one week meal plan from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) to help prepare your immune system against lurking germs by clicking HERE.
A FUN FACT FOR YOUR BRAIN (AND BODY)!
Did you know that your participation in COR FIT’s group fitness classes are actually helping you to REVERSE the aging process??? I mean, we all knew there were multiple benefits to these fun and challenging classes, but to age backwards as well? Cherry on top!
A recent study found that “people can use exercise to manipulate their cells and counteract aging.” Particularly through high-intensity interval training (like COR FIT’s classes)!!! To learn more, please click HERE. Thanks to Sheila and Sarah for keeping us young!
FRESH STARTS FOR YOUR SKIN!
Spring is a time for fresh starts. Tackle dull-looking skin and reveal your brighter side with key ingredients like Retinol and Vitamin C! Not only do these ingredients work to brighten your skin, but they are also powerful anti-aging skincare ingredients.
Look for products that package Vitamin C and Retinol separately like Rodan + Fields’ REVERSE Dual Active Brightening Complex. Pure Vitamin C and Retinol are highly effective; however, their activity makes each ingredient tricky to work with on its own, and virtually impossible to incorporate them together into the same formulation. It’s best to keep these ingredients contained separately and then blend together immediately before application to ensure best results!
WALK FOR A CAUSE!
We invite you to walk “Into Summer” with a Charity Walk and Brunch benefitting NextStep, an internationally recognized non-profit that makes life-changing rehab accessible and affordable to those living with paralysis.
This 5K walk will take place in Georgetown on May 13th along the Potomac Heritage Trail and will end with brunch at Mr. Smith’s of Georgetown. For more information on how you can register and participate in this charitable walk, please click HERE.
